“Now He arose from the synagogue and entered Simon’s house. But Simon’s wife’s mother was sick with a high fever, and they made request of Him concerning her. 39 So He stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her.” Luke 4:38-39 NKJV

“At evening, when the sun had set, they brought to Him all who were sick and those who were demon-possessed. 33 And the whole city was gathered together at the door. 34 Then He healed many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons; and He did not allow the demons to speak, because they knew Him.” Mark 1:32-34 NKJV

“When He had come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed Him. 2 And behold, a leper came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.” 3 Then Jesus put out His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.” Immediately his leprosy was cleansed.” Matthew 8:1-3 NKJV

Jehovah- Rapha, God our Healer,
(Exodus 15:26)

The God who can heal, restore, cure, or mend us? What a promise. And we read and find Jesus doing all those things as he finds the need. And the religious get upset because he heals lepers, and whole crowds! They cannot deny he is more than a man and are threatened by him.

Jesus reprimands them with the statement, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”  (Luke 5:31). He knew the religious leaders could not see themselves as sinners.

We struggle with the divine healing question today. I believe You do still heal miraculously but I am not sure why You do sometimes and other times not. But I still pray if it is Your will . . .

But though Your Son healed disease, as he walked the earth, He was more concerned with our eternal healing. “Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” (Matthew 10:28).

You did not go to the cross to enable us to have a few more years here on earth, a blessing though that is. You came to give us life in all its fullness (John 10:10), here now, and with You beyond what we call death. In a place You are preparing or us (John 14:1-3). Give us compassion to see those struggling with ill health and help them but not forget to let them know that You God can carry them through death (Psalm 123:4) to life.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Worship Sunday 18th October 2026

God heals the inside that no-one can see.

I brought You all the pieces,
The parts I couldn’t mend,
The years the locust stole from me,
The wounds I can’t defend.
You didn’t turn away from me,
You didn’t count the cost,
You gathered every fragment up
And found what I had lost.

You make me whole again,
You heal the broken places,
By Your wounds I’m mended,
By Your love I’m made new.
You make me whole again,
Restore what time has taken,
Jesus, my Healer,
You make me whole again.

You touched the leper’s skin,
You made the blind to see,
The same hands that were pierced for them
Are reaching out to me.
So I will lift my head up,
I’ll lay my sorrow down,
Where ashes used to cover me
You’ve placed a crown.

You make me whole again,
You heal the broken places,
By Your wounds I’m mended,
By Your love I’m made new.
You make me whole again,
Restore what time has taken,
Jesus, my Healer,
You make me whole again.

Jesus, my Healer,
You make me whole again.
