“Wisdom has built her house,
She has hewn out her seven pillars;
She has slaughtered her meat,
She has mixed her wine,
She has also furnished her table.
She has sent out her maidens,
She cries out from the highest places of the city,
“Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!”
As for him who lacks understanding, she says to him,
“Come, eat of my bread and drink of the wine I have mixed.” Proverbs 9:1-5 NKJV

Father God,

The two pillars which Solomon built for the Temple entrance were given names which represented You.  Jachin, which means “established” or “he will establish” and Boaz, which means “strength or “in him is strength” (1 Kings 7:21). Here we are told she, wisdom has built her house with seven pillars. We are not told their names though many scholars have tried to name.

But I like the thought that wisdom is building an important solid and grand house. Built to last., firm and established. Not two but seven Pillars. Seven in scripture often denotes perfection. And here in Proverbs Wisdom is inviting us to dine with her, in her perfection. Safe and secure. Just as Jesus tells the parable of the great banquet and being invited to dine with Him (Luke 14:16-24).

We would be foolish not to take up the invitation to dine in a perfect house with wisdom. Jesus says it is foolish to not take up the invitation to dine at God’s banquet. Which leads me to one of my favourite verses . . . “Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.” (Isaiah 55:2 KLV) Lord we want to delight in a rich diet of soul fattening wisdom with You.

In Jesus name we pray Amen.

I have not heard this for a while. Remembering the banquet from Song of Solomon 2:4 and 2:16.

He brought me to His banqueting table (echo)
He brought me to His banqueting table (echo)
And His banner over me is love

I am my beloved’s and He is mine (echo)
Yes, I am my beloved’s and He is mine (echo)
And His banner over me is love
Yes His banner over me, over me, is love.

And we can feel the love
Of God in this place
We believe in Your goodness
We receive Your grace.
We delight ourselves at Your table
Oh God, You do all things well
Just look at our lives.

He brought me to His banqueting table (echo)
He brought me to His banqueting table (echo)
And His banner over me is love
