“The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel:  to know wisdom and instruction, to perceive the words of understanding, to receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, judgment, and equity; to give prudence to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion— A wise man will hear and increase learning, and a man of understanding will attain wise counsel, to understand a proverb and an enigma, the words of the wise and their riddles. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction. ” Proverbs 1:1-7 NKJV

Lord God Omniscient,

Here is a man who has been granted wisdom and can talk about all subjects and in depth (1 Kings 4:29) who still promotes learning. The need to learn and from You God. David, the musician, wrote many Psalms covering every situation and emotion need. His son Solomon wrote proverbs and down to earth wisdom. Each serving his own generation.

The opening introduction really sorts the reader into one of two camps. The teachable and the foolish. Jesus also spoke about the wise and the foolish! (Matthew 7:24-27). If we think we know, whatever our age, we may miss something important and cease to grow. Some do know a lot. Quizzers know endless facts. Specialists know their subjects. Many experienced by life have learned a great deal. But how sad the person that does not think anyone can teach him anything. Or is not willing to listen, discuss, pray and perhaps change his mind?

There is always fresh wisdom, like our daily bread. Keep us open, as a child still hungry to learn, and teachable. Malleable in Your divine love and holiness.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Worship Monday 27th April 2026

Speak, O Lord, as we come to You
To receive the food of Your holy Word
Take Your truth, plant it deep in us
Shape and fashion us in Your likeness
That the light of Christ might be seen today
In our acts of love and our deeds of faith
Speak, O Lord, and fulfill in us
All Your purposes for Your glory

Teach us, Lord, full obedience
Holy reverence, true humility
Test our thoughts and our attitudes
In the radiance of Your purity
Cause our faith to rise, cause our eyes to see
Your majestic love and authority
Words of pow’r that can never fail
Let their truth prevail over unbelief

Speak, O Lord, and renew our minds
Help us grasp the heights of Your plans for us
Truths unchanged from the dawn of time
That will echo down through eternity
And by grace, we’ll stand on Your promises
And by faith, we’ll walk as You walk with us
Speak, O Lord, ’til Your church is built
And the earth is filled with Your glory.

“Can two people walk together without agreeing on the direction?
Does a lion ever roar in a thicket without first finding a victim?
Does a young lion growl in its den without first catching its prey?
Does a bird ever get caught in a trap that has no bait?
Does a trap spring shut when there’s nothing to catch?
When the ram’s horn blows a warning, shouldn’t the people be alarmed?
Does disaster come to a city unless the Lord has planned it?
Indeed, the Sovereign Lord never does anything until he reveals his plans to his servants the prophets.” Amos 3:3-7 NLT

Awesome God, Creator,

I am that person who remembers the sermon illustrations, pictures or story, and then remembers the teaching. Your word speaks to me clearly when there are illustrations, parables and I can see what You mean. Amos paints the picture of what works and what doesn’t. They are not walking with You God because they can’t agree to keep Your Laws. And the prophets have warned them over and over again. Here is Amos speaking directly the same message once more to Israel.

His warning goes unheeded. The Bible tells us what happens next and we will witness it as we read through. It is disappointing (You give them so many opportunities), its humbling (You still keep Your promises), its frustrating. (Of course we would have listened – would we?).

Today our church is not perfect. There are things we do not agree on. There are decisions to made where we do not clearly know the way forward. Churches disagree on practices. But for me I embrace Your church where Your Son is at the centre and in fellowship with You and Your Holy Spirit. 1 Peter 4:17 tells us judgement begins with Your household God. After all we have You with us so we should know better. You told Israel they should know better. I hope the ‘church’ i.e. God’s people are listening to You for todays correction and way forward. And me of course. What are You saying today?

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

“Soon afterward the armies of Midian, Amalek, and the people of the east formed an alliance against Israel and crossed the Jordan, camping in the valley of Jezreel. 34 Then the Spirit of the Lord clothed Gideon with power. He blew a ram’s horn as a call to arms, and the men of the clan of Abiezer came to him. 35 He also sent messengers throughout Manasseh, Asher, Zebulun, and Naphtali, summoning their warriors, and all of them responded. 36 Then Gideon said to God, “If you are truly going to use me to rescue Israel as you promised, 37 prove it to me in this way. I will put a wool fleece on the threshing floor tonight. If the fleece is wet with dew in the morning but the ground is dry, then I will know that you are going to help me rescue Israel as you promised.” 38 And that is just what happened. When Gideon got up early the next morning, he squeezed the fleece and wrung out a whole bowlful of water. 39 Then Gideon said to God, “Please don’t be angry with me, but let me make one more request. Let me use the fleece for one more test. This time let the fleece remain dry while the ground around it is wet with dew.” 40 So that night God did as Gideon asked. The fleece was dry in the morning, but the ground was covered with dew.” Judges 6:33-40 NLT

God of reassurance,

Your Word here says You clothed Gideon with power. But he was not super human he still had doubts about himself getting it wrong. So he asked for another two assurances, putting out fleeces. I like Gideon. He still has his weakness amidst his obedience. It encourages me. I have not laid out sheep fleeces but I have been unsure and You have told me the same thing, often three times, at different occasions to raise my faith and encourage me. Sometimes using someone else to say why don’t you do this or through a Bible verse, an inner prompt or even something I see which speaks to me.

Thank You that You know our weaknesses and instead of punishing us You encourage us, so we can grow in faith and trust. Help us to persevere and open our spiritual ears even when You have to repeat Yourself. And thank you for Your patience.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
