 “When the morning dawned, the angels urged Lot to hurry, saying, “Arise, take your wife and your two daughters who are here, lest you be consumed in the punishment of the city.” 16 And while he lingered, the men took hold of his hand, his wife’s hand, and the hands of his two daughters, the Lord being merciful to him, and they brought him out and set him outside the city. 17 So it came to pass, when they had brought them outside, that he said, “Escape for your life! Do not look behind you nor stay anywhere in the plain. Escape to the mountains, lest you be destroyed.” 18 Then Lot said to them, “Please, no, my lords! 19 Indeed now, your servant has found favour in your sight, and you have increased your mercy which you have shown me by saving my life; but I cannot escape to the mountains, lest some evil overtake me and I die. 20 See now, this city is near enough to flee to, and it is a little one; please let me escape there (is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live.” 21 And he said to him, “See, I have favoured you concerning this thing also, in that I will not overthrow this city for which you have spoken.”

But his wife looked back behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.” Genesis 19:15-21, 26 NKJV

Father God,

As I look at the life of Lot I wonder that You still rescued him. But then I have read Genesis 18 and seen how brave Abram was to intercede with You Lord. Six times Abram asked You and You both knew it was about Lot and his daughters. And Abram could only call on your righteous mercy because he knew Lot was not worthy as none of us are. But his wife had more regrets at leaving or less resolve to obey?

Jesus You warned us to count the cost of following You and likened it to a man building a tower and not able to finish it (Luke 14:28). You, God warned about trying to follow Jesus while looking back as Lots wife did (Luke 9:62). And called us to take up our cross daily – the symbol of suffering (Luke 9:23).

Father, what we receive is often greater than what we have to deny ourselves. Though I do not live in a land where believers are persecuted. When I give to the foodbank I do not have to miss a meal. When I give financially, I have time and am not working all hours for a pittance . . . Each of us has our own journey of carrying our cross. And I remember that more is expected of those who have been given more (Luke 12:48).

Help us to keep looking and moving forward. Today is a new opportunity to run for You. To know what and when and how to give out of whatsoever You give to us. Help us to be spontaneous when we see a need we can help with.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Worship Sunday 11th January 2026
I find this tune less sombre.

O Jesus, I have promised
to serve Thee to the end;
be Thou forever near me,
my Master and my Friend;
I shall not fear the battle
if Thou art by my side,
nor wander from the pathway
if Thou wilt be my Guide.

O let me feel Thee near me,
the world is ever near;
I see the sights that dazzle,
the tempting sounds I hear;
my foes are ever near me,
around me and within;
but, Jesus, draw Thou nearer,
and shield my soul from sin.

O let me hear Thee speaking
in accents clear and still,
above the storms of passion,
the murmurs of self-will;
O speak to reassure me,
to hasten or control!
O speak, and make me listen,
Thou Guardian of my soul!

O Jesus, Thou hast promised
to all who follow Thee
that where Thou art in glory
there shall Thy servant be;
and, Jesus, I have promised
to serve Thee to the end;
O give me grace to follow,
my Master and my Friend!

“And the king of Sodom, the king of Gomorrah, the king of Admah, the king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar) went out and joined together in battle in the Valley of Siddim against Chedorlaomer king of Elam, Tidal king of nations, Amraphel king of Shinar, and Arioch king of Ellasar—four kings against five. 10 Now the Valley of Siddim was full of asphalt pits; and the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled; some fell there, and the remainder fled to the mountains. 11 Then they took all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah, and all their provisions, and went their way. 12 They also took Lot, Abram’s brother’s son who dwelt in Sodom, and his goods, and departed. 13 Then one who had escaped came and told Abram the Hebrew, for he dwelt by the terebinth trees of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol and brother of Aner; and they were allies with Abram. ” Genesis 14:8-13 NKJV

God who was and is and is to come (Revelation 1:8),

Men, warring against each other for power and land and prosperity. Same today. Man has not grown wiser. Abram had tried to make allies rather then enemies. But when it came to saving his family he was not a coward and faced up to his responsibilities. He rescued Lot and all his family, servants and all his belongings.

God, You gave Abram the victory even though Lot did not deserve it and would return to live amongst a people whose sin is very grave (Genesis 18:20). To a place he and his family were actually still not safe. We wonder sometimes at those we know who have seen Your Son, Jesus and tasted freedom and yet return to live their own way. Abram shows his love for Lot by rescuing him. You showed us Your saving grace Lord God, to us while we were yet sinners (Romans 5:8). You rescued us.

We all have a little of Lot in us. I admit it Lord, as You know anyway! Sometimes I do not want to be good all the time. I do want to sulk or give a sarcastic response or tell others what their problem are! And I pray Lord when I try to be like Jesus, I will not be self righteous or condescending. Abraham did not break off relations with his family though they were on different journeys. He kept on interceding for them ( Genesis 18:27-33). It made all the difference.

We need Your help Lord to respond and relate to other people. To check on our own hearts and want the best for others,

In Jesus name we pray.

Worship Saturday 10th January 202

Jesus take me as I am.
I can come no other way.
Take me deeper into You.
Make my flesh life melt away.
Make me like a precious stone,
Crystal clear and finely honed,
Life of Jesus shining through,
Giving glory back to you.

“Then Abram went up from Egypt, he and his wife and all that he had, and Lot with him, to the South. Abram was very rich in livestock, in silver, and in gold. And he went on his journey from the South as far as Bethel, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai, to the place of the altar which he had made there at first. And there Abram called on the name of the Lord. Lot also, who went with Abram, had flocks and herds and tents. Now the land was not able to support them, that they might dwell together, for their possessions were so great that they could not dwell together. And there was strife between the herdsmen of Abram’s livestock and the herdsmen of Lot’s livestock. The Canaanites and the Perizzites then dwelt in the land. So Abram said to Lot, “Please let there be no strife between you and me, and between my herdsmen and your herdsmen; for we are brethren. Is not the whole land before you? Please separate from me. If you take the left, then I will go to the right; or, if you go to the right, then I will go to the left.”” Genesis 13:1-10 NKJV

Father God,

Yes they were doing really well and prospering in the land You God promised them. But success caused strife between the two families. Even in the best families there can be a little strife! But You have led them to a spacious place and there is enough room to expand, they did not need to fall out. How as churches we need to understand this and pray with and for each other.

Abraham has learned that You, God are worthy of his trust. You called him to move (Genesis 12:1-3). You kept him safe in famine in Egypt (Genesis 12:10). You protected his wife even though he lied about her to Pharaoh ( Genesis 12:17-20). You led him back to the place between Bethel and Ai when the famine was over to a good land (Genesis 13:1-4). So how does He cope with the strife? In peace. He talks with his nephew Lot. He looks at what there is in dispute and is generous. He gives Lot the first choice. He does not try to influence him because he knows he can trust You, God and Your promises.

Which ever Lot chooses, Abram knows he will be blessed. It is Lot who has not yet learned to choose Your way God. Help us to know that we can be generous and let others be blessed. We will not miss out. We can be generous because Your generosity Lord is endless and boundless towards us for good.

In Jesus name we give thanks, Amen.

Worship Friday 9th January 2026

I love You, Lord
For Your mercy never fails me
All my days, I’ve been held in Your hands
From the moment that I wake up
Until I lay my head
Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God

All my life You have been faithful
And all my life You have been so, so good
With every breath that I am able
Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God

I love Your voice
You have led me through the fire
In the darkest night
You are close like no other
I’ve known You as a Father
I’ve known You as a Friend
And I have lived in the goodness of God (yeah)

Chorus

Your goodness is running after, it’s running after me
Your goodness is running after, it’s running after me
My life laid down, I’m surrendered now
I give You everything
Your goodness is running after,
It’s running after me (oh)

Your goodness is running after, it’s running after me
Your goodness is running after, it’s running after me
My life laid down, I’m surrendered now
I give You everything
Your goodness is running after
It keeps running after me

Chorus: Twice
