“Then the people of Israel were divided into two parts: half of the people followed Tibni the son of Ginath, to make him king, and half followed Omri. 22 But the people who followed Omri prevailed over the people who followed Tibni the son of Ginath. So Tibni died and Omri reigned.” 1 Kings 16:21-22 NKJV

In the thirty-eighth year of Asa king of Judah, Ahab the son of Omri became king over Israel; and Ahab the son of Omri reigned over Israel in Samaria twenty-two years. 30 Now Ahab the son of Omri did evil in the sight of the Lord, more than all who were before him. ” 1 Kings 16:29-30 NKJV

“So he (Elijah), went and did according to the word of the Lord, for he went and stayed by the Brook Cherith, which flows into the Jordan. The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening; and he drank from the brook. And it happened after a while that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land.” 1 Kings 17:5-7 NKJV

“Then the word of the Lord came to him, saying, “Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and dwell there. See, I have commanded a widow there to provide for you.” 10 So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, indeed a widow was there gathering sticks. And he called to her and said, “Please bring me a little water in a cup, that I may drink.” 11 And as she was going to get it, he called to her and said, “Please bring me a morsel of bread in your hand.”” 1 Kings 17:8-11 NKJV

Lord our Lord,

So Tibni died. We don’t need to know how or why but one gang overcame the other. Neither any good in Israel. While Asa ruled on in Judah Israel went from offensive to more offensive to You their God. And Ahab enters to rule Israel with a more sinful heart and hands.

But here is Your man, Elijah appears on the scene. He foretells of a drought, no rain, not even dew! (1 Kings 17:1). Thats dry. You rescued him and sent him to where there was some water left and You miraculously fed him. God as a rescuer, a glimpse of God the rescuer to come. Elijah was sent bread, meat and water. You sent us the bread and water of life and one who became our sacrifice.

Then we have the beautiful recounting of his need being met by a desperate widow. Not only did she find in what she thought was her last act of generosity, salvation for her and her household but also resurrection for her dead son. (1 Kings 17:17-22).

As we journey through Kings and Chronicles we see You confronting sin through Your prophets. You are with them providing and protecting. And also touching the lives of those willing to hear. We bring to You our willingness and ask You (our rescuer) to use us for Your glory and service.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Always a good day to Paise our Rescuer.

There is good news for the captive
Good news for the shamed
There is good news for the one who walked away
There is good news for the doubter
The one religion failed
For the good lord has come to seek and save

He’s our rescuer, He’s our rescuer
We are free from sin forever more
Oh how sweet the sound
Oh how grace abounds
We will praise the lord, our rescuer

He is beauty for the blind man
Riches for the poor
He is friendship for the one the world ignores
He is pasture for the weary
Rest for those who strive

“Now Nadab the son of Jeroboam became king over Israel in the second year of Asa king of Judah, and he reigned over Israel two years. 26 And he did evil in the sight of the Lord, and walked in the way of his father, and in his sin by which he had made Israel sin. 27 Then Baasha the son of Ahijah, of the house of Issachar, conspired against him. And Baasha killed him at Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines, while Nadab and all Israel laid siege to Gibbethon. 28 Baasha killed him in the third year of Asa king of Judah, and reigned in his place. 29 And it was so, when he became king, that he killed all the house of Jeroboam. He did not leave to Jeroboam anyone that breathed, until he had destroyed him, according to the word of the Lord which He had spoken by His servant Ahijah the Shilonite, 30 because of the sins of Jeroboam, which he had sinned and by which he had made Israel sin, because of his provocation with which he had provoked the Lord God of Israel to anger.” 1 Kings 15:25-30 NKJV

Father God,

History was never my strong point but when explained I can understand why things happened as they did. Even if we are looking back to something we cannot know the exact details of. Kings and chronicles give us many details of the history of Israel which has now become Israel and Judah. But the crossover of Kings sometimes confuses me. The chat below helps somewhat and shows how they overlapped . . . grey being Israel and green Judah. Israel was taken captive to Assyria before Judah who were taken to Babylon. What I seem to learn is that they did not learn?

But You had a plan and it came to pass exactly as the prophets foretold. Today we see that leaders of nations do not seem to learn from history. Or want to be famous on the chart? But we have learned that we can trust, that once again, as You have promised Jesus will return. He will be King of Kings and Lord of Lords (Revelation 19:16). The only King we need, the only Saviour and the only Lord. He is worthy of all our worship. Present and future history would also make difficult charts – but through it all – Your plans will come to pass (Jeremiah 29:11).

Keep our eyes fixed on the good King Jesus, and filled with Your Spirit. Not Asa or confusion or doubts. And help us to do and be some good while we are a part of our history timeline.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Traditional hymn but the words stand true. Is it me or do we not sing about Jesus coming back very often?

Sing we the King who is coming to reign,
Glory to Jesus, the Lamb that was slain,
Life and salvation his empire shall bring
Joy to the nations when Jesus is King.

Chorus
Come let us sing: Praise to our King,
Jesus our King, Jesus our King;
This is our song, who to Jesus belong:
Glory to Jesus, to Jesus our King.

All men shall dwell in his marvellous light,
Races long severed his love shall unite,
Justice and truth from his sceptre shall spring,
Wrong shall be ended when Jesus is King.

All shall be well in his Kingdom of peace,
Freedom shall flourish and wisdom increase,
Foe shall be friend when his triumph we sing,
Sword shall be sickle when Jesus is King.

Knowledge and fear of the Lord then shall be,
As the deep waters that cover the sea;
All then shall be as the splendour of spring
And all harmonious when Jesus is King.

Kingdom of Christ, for thy coming we pray,
Hasten, O Father, the dawn of the day
When this new song thy creation shall sing,
Satan is vanquished and Jesus is King.

 “In the twentieth year of Jeroboam king of Israel, Asa became king over Judah. 10 And he reigned forty-one years in Jerusalem. His grandmother’s name was Maachah the granddaughter of Abishalom. 11 Asa did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, as did his father David. 12 And he banished the perverted persons from the land, and removed all the idols that his fathers had made. 13 Also he removed Maachah his grandmother from being queen mother, because she had made an obscene image of Asherah. And Asa cut down her obscene image and burned it by the Brook Kidron. 14 But the high places were not removed. Nevertheless Asa’s heart was loyal to the Lord all his days. 15 He also brought into the house of the Lord the things which his father had dedicated, and the things which he himself had dedicated: silver and gold and utensils.” 1 Kings 15:9-15 NKJV

Father God,

At last, a king of David’s line who did good. And it cannot have been easy going. Standing against his mother. Showing her up before the whole nation. Cleansing the land of the physical places of idolatry and also cleansing the land of the perverted people. He may not have been perfect but he was known by You as doing what was right. You didn’t leave them without a witness. Just as ou never leave our world without witnesses.

Today we remember the one who was perfect ‘good’ who ensured everyone of us could know Him. Not just the people who saw Him when he walked the earth as Jesus. But everyone, at the same time and yet personally . . . By ascending to You so He could send Your Holy Spirit. He is the One who is You with us. He speaks, He leads, He guides (John 16:13) and He corrects and forgives (1 Timothy 6:20). When we pray, we sometimes pray to You, Our Father. Or we call on Jesus or we ask the Holy Spirit to help us. How wonderful that You are One and hear us. We do not have to explain ourselves again because You are in perfect unity. It just helps us understand how You are everywhere, all the time and know everything. You have a plan for mankind. And yet . . . You are committed to us personally, individually – to love, forgive, and give us a way home.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Worship Sunday 24th May 2026
On Pentecost Sunday – an indulgence, a hymn from the Scottish revival. Details below the lyrics.

They were gathered in an upper chamber,
 As commanded by the risen Lord,
And the promise of the Father
There they sought with one accord
When the Holy Ghost from heav’n descended
Like a rushing wind and tongues of fire:
So dear Lord, we seek Thy blessing,
Come with glory now our hearts inspire.

Chorus
Let the fire fall, let the fire fall
Let the fire from heaven fall;
We are waiting and expecting
Now in faith dear Lord we call;
Let the fire fall, let the fire fall
On Thy promise we depend;
From the glory of Thy presence

Let the Pentecostal fire descend.

As Elijah we would raise the altar
For our testimony clear and true
Christ the Saviour, loving Healer,
Coming Lord Baptizer too
Ever flowing grace and full salvation
For a ruined race Thy love has planned
For this blessed revelation
For Thy written Word we dare to stand

Chorus

‘Tis the covenanted promise given
To as many as the Lord shall call,
To the fathers and their children,
To the people, one and all;
So rejoicing in Thy word unfailing,
We draw nigh in faith Thy power to know
Come, O come, Thy burning Spirit
Set our hearts with heavenly fire aglow.

Chorus

With a living coal from off Thy altar,
Touch our lips to swell Thy wondrous praise
To extol Thee; bless, adore Thee
And our songs of worship raise;
Let the cloud of glory now descending
Fill our hearts with holy ecstacy,
Come in all Thy glorious fullness
Blessed Holy Spirit have Thy way.

Chorus

Lyrics: Harry Tee

The test of true revival is that the fruit will be seen in individual lives which will then have a marked effect upon the community. One such true revival was that in Kilsyth, Scotland, beginning in 1908 where the writer of this hymn, Harry Tee, was the leading elder of the church from 1922 until his death in 1959. Harry and the church there in Kilsyth, experienced a true ‘upper chamber’ revival. For 9 months . . .

. . . True to real revival, hundreds of lives were radically changed and signs followed. Some of the worst characters in the community were saved. One infamous man who had had to be restrained with rope, held by no less than FIVE policemen, was transformed instantly when he was born-again and filled with the Spirit. A lady who was ill with diphtheria and had lost her hearing and speech, was instantly healed when hands were laid on her. The town which was built mostly on mining was filled with rough, hard-working men whose hearts were touched and changed. This then affected the homes and children, and it was not uncommon to hear and see children earnestly seeking the Lord, speaking in tongues and even being used of God to bring sobering prophecies. Beyond the little Scottish town of Kilsyth, this outpouring affected nations and continents as, as with any true revival, a missionary zeal burned in hearts. When Harry Tee wrote the words and music to this revival hymn, he was both describing what happened in the Book of Acts as well as what happened in Kilsyth.
