“For the Lord your God is the God of gods and Lord of lords. He is the great God, the mighty and awesome God, who shows no partiality and cannot be bribed. 18 He ensures that orphans and widows receive justice. He shows love to the foreigners living among you and gives them food and clothing. 19 So you, too, must show love to foreigners, for you yourselves were once foreigners in the land of Egypt. 20 You must fear the Lord your God and worship him and cling to him. Your oaths must be in his name alone. 21 He alone is your God, the only one who is worthy of your praise, the one who has done these mighty miracles that you have seen with your own eyes. 22 When your ancestors went down into Egypt, there were only seventy of them. But now the Lord your God has made you as numerous as the stars in the sky!” Deuteronomy 10:17-22 NLT
God of Gods and Lord of Lords,
Your Son, Jesus spoke these words in the sermon on the mount, “Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill. For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished. ” (Matthew 5:17,18). When we read Moses, Your prophets words we see truth mirrored exactly. You are eternally God of Gods, Lord of Lords. You show no partiality and cannot be bribed. You love each one of us. And we can come freely and ask and receive because of Jesus. You showed Your love and lovingkindness to Your children so they would learn to love and be kind. You showed us the extent of Your love in Jesus.
There were only about 70 of Jacobs family who moved to Egypt in Josephs time. By the beginning of the Book of Numbers there are 603,550 fighting men (Numbers 2:31). That was not counting their families so maybe 1 to 2 million? When the the church began there were only 12 disciples and possibly 120 in the upper room (Acts 1:15). Now the church numbers approximately 2 billion around the world. Church may look different in each generation but if You, God are still worshiped as the Lord of Lords and God of Gods who gave Your Son to die for us (John 3:16) rose again and poured out Your Spirit to bring us new life (John 3:3), we will continue to grow.
We seek You for our own personal growth, for our church to grow and for Your Kingdom to grow here on earth and for Your people to show love and cling to You.
In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
Worship Wednesday 19th March 2025
Surely our God is the God of gods
And the Lord of kings
The revealer of mysteries
Surely our God is the God of gods
And the Lord of kings
He changes the times and the seasons
He gives rhythm to the tides
He knows what is hidden
In the darkest of places
Brings the shadows in to His light
Chorus
I will praise You always my Father
You are Lord of heaven and earth
You hide Your secrets
From the wise and the learned
And reveal them to this Your child
Chorus
Thank You for sending Your only Son
We may know the mystery of God –
He opens the treasures
Of wisdom and knowledge
To the humble not to the proud
Lyrics: David L and Liz Morris
