“The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” John 1:29 NKJV

” Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry.”Matthew 4:1-2
NKJV

“Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, 2 being tempted for forty days by the devil. And in those days He ate nothing, and afterward, when they had ended, He was hungry. Luke 4:1-2 NKJV

“Immediately the Spirit drove Him into the wilderness. 13 And He was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan, and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered to Him.” Mark 1:12 NKJV

Holy Lord God,

You kept Jesus, the baby and child, safe. Even removing Him to Egypt for a time well hidden. Then when it was time John did what he was born to do. He announced Jesus to the world.

I did not expect you to then put him in direct physical, emotional and spiritual danger in a wilderness with wild beasts,no food for forty days and extreme temptation. All three at once! At the beginning of his ministry everything is thrown at him to make him give up, change sides or escape. And satan’s temptations were aimed at the heart of his mission they were not random. As Adam and Eve’s were too. They fell – He did not.

So why are we surprised when temptations come subtly as we seek to grow or start some ministry for You God? Is it the enemy seeking to stop us before we start? Or are You showing us what we need to overcome and recognise to go forward? One thing is sure and certain, that if we stay true to You, we will come through wilderness experiences and temptation. And be stronger? Wiser? And we are not alone, as satan would lie to us. We have You Father, You never slumber (Psalm 121) and people we do not even know, praying for us. We should never undervalue the support of our fellow believers. Or praying for the church worldwide.

Jesus used scripture as a weapon against the enemy. Help me remember Your Truth and surround myself with others who love Your Word.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

In the wilderness or the mountain top? This song reminds us of the truth and reminds the enemy that we know it.

In this time of desperation
When all we know is doubt and fear
There is only one foundation
We believe, we believe
In this broken generation
When all is dark, You help us see
There is only one salvation
We believe, we believe

We believe in God the Father
We believe in Jesus Christ
We believe in the Holy Spirit
And He’s given us new life
We believe in the crucifixion
We believe that He conquered death
We believe in the resurrection
And He’s comin’ back again, we believe

So, let our faith be more than anthems
Greater than the songs we sing
And in our weakness and temptations
We believe, we believe!

We believe in God the Father
We believe in Jesus Christ
We believe in the Holy Spirit
And He’s given us new life
We believe in the crucifixion
We believe that He conquered death
We believe in the resurrection
And He’s comin’ back again

Let the lost be found and the dead be raised!
In the here and now, let love invade!
Let the church live loud, “Our God,” we’ll say
We believe, we believe!

And the gates of Hell will not prevail!
For the power of God, has torn the veil!
Now we know Your love will never fail!
We believe, we believe!

We believe in God the Father
We believe in Jesus Christ
We believe in the Holy Spirit
And He’s given us new life
We believe in the crucifixion
We believe that He conquered death
We believe in the resurrection
And He’s coming back

He’s coming back He’s comin’ back again
He’s comin’ back again!
We believe We believe
