“Then the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying, 9 “When Pharaoh speaks to you, saying, ‘Show a miracle for yourselves,’ then you shall say to Aaron, ‘Take your rod and cast it before Pharaoh, and let it become a serpent.’ ” 10 So Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh, and they did so, just as the Lord commanded. And Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh and before his servants, and it became a serpent. 11 But Pharaoh also called the wise men and the  sorcerers; so the magicians of Egypt, they also did in like manner with their enchantments. 12 For every man threw down his rod, and they became serpents. But Aaron’s rod swallowed up their rods. 13 And Pharaoh’s heart grew hard, and he did not heed them, as the Lord had said.” Exodus 7:8-18 NKJV

God of Gods,

Men have always wanted to be divine and the Pharos’s were well known for making themselves God’s as well as rulers. Men have always wanted to appear above mere mortals. Moses had been warned about Pharoah not listening. But it must have come as a shock when his sorcerers could match his miracles! We do have an enemy who tempted Jesus in the wilderness (Matthew 4:1-11). But he is not God. He is limited in power, knowledge and presence. And with the plagues we see the sorcerers can only replicate the first.

The ten plagues: River turned to blood, Frogs, Lice (or gnats), Flies, Livestock, Boils, Hail, Locusts, Darkness, Death of the firstborn.

And Moses was able to ensure that the plagues did not trouble the Israelites (Exodus 8:22). God, You were in the detail. Surely this must have encouraged the Israelites that You were protecting them. Pharoah must have been a hard man or perhaps he truly believed Moses would not get the better of him. Pride? We may not suffer plagues but we do not always have it smooth! Sometimes we try to rely on our own strength and forget to turn and trust in You. Help us to keep our hearts soft to hear You and willing to obey. Even in just the little things. And the last plague reminds us of Jesus. Your first Son, Your only Son who gave His life to save us.

In Jesus name we pray and give thanks, Amen.

Soften my heart, Lord
Soften my heart
From all indifference
Set me apart
To feel your compassion
To weep with your tears
Come soften my heart, O Lord
Soften my heart

“So Moses went and returned to Jethro his father-in-law, and said to him, “Please let me go and return to my brethren who are in Egypt, and see whether they are still alive.” And Jethro said to Moses, “Go in peace.” 19 Now the Lord said to Moses in Midian, “Go, return to Egypt; for all the men who sought your life are dead.” 20 Then Moses took his wife and his sons and set them on a donkey, and he returned to the land of Egypt. And Moses took the rod of God in his hand. 21 And the Lord said to Moses, “When you go back to Egypt, see that you do all those wonders before Pharaoh which I have put in your hand. But I will harden his heart, so that he will not let the people go. 22 Then you shall say to Pharaoh, ‘Thus says the Lord: “Israel is My son, My firstborn. 23 So I say to you, let My son go that he may serve Me. But if you refuse to let him go, indeed I will kill your son, your firstborn.” ’ ” Exodus 4:18-23 NKJV

Holy God,

Moses certainly had a listening lesson at the burning bush. He did speak – but he was very negative! He pleaded he was a nobody. Asked what he should call You when people asked Your name. Said they wouldn’t believe him. Said he was not a good speaker and could he be excused. He begged You to send by another hand! (Exodus:3:11-4:17). Moses knew what he was being asked to do because he had grown up as an Egyptians. Aware of, but apart from, the life of his people.

I love Lord God that You see beyond our lack of confidence, negativity and doubts. You provided Moses with help in Aaron. But we read that Moses stepped up and learned to be the leader You knew he could be. Thank You that You see our potential. You are a comforter and an encourager. You sent Y0ur angel to call Gideon a mighty man of valour, though he was young, nobody special, threshing wheat hiding in a winepress (Judges 6:12).

Help us to see who we are and can be in You by Your Holy Spirit. Help us to encourage each other that we are mighty men and women of God if we choose to hear, follow and obey. There are still people to set free from sin.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Worship Monday 26th January 2026
Dennis writes: While leading the body of Christ in praise, it became apparent to me that part of my job as a worship leaded is to encourage the body of Christ to rise up and assume the identity God has given them. Overcomers. Victors. Mighty Men and Women of Valour. We are triumphant because Christ is triumphant over sin, over death, and over the enemy! . . . And remember this: the loss of one battle does not equal the loss of the war. Just keep getting back up. War is devastating at times, yet necessary in the spiritual realm in which we live our true reality. Don’t be a timid warrior. Be a bold and relentless warrior in the army of God. That’s really who you are.

We wrestle not with flesh and blood
But with the forces of night,
We’ve overcome them by the blood
Of the King Lord Jesus Christ!

Chorus
We are strong in the Lord in the strength of his might!
Strong in the Lord we will stand and fight!
Strong in the Lord as we stand and sing!
Strong in the Lord as we praise the King of kings,
Lord Jesus Christ!

Stand firm in the armor of our God,
And pierce the darkness with light.
All praise to the overcoming God;
Let us lift our sword and fight!

“Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian. And he led the flock to the back of the desert, and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. 2 And the Angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush. So he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, but the bush was not consumed. 3 Then Moses said, “I will now turn aside and see this great sight, why the bush does not burn.” 4 So when the Lord saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.” 5 Then He said, “Do not draw near this place. Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground.” 6 Moreover He said, “I am the God of your father—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look upon God.” Exodus 3:1-6 NKJV

God of the burning bush,

The second time in the Old Testament Your presence God is symbolised by fire. A symbol of Your holiness, power, and divine presence. You were first ‘seen’ as in the pillar of fire guarding and guiding the children of Israel though the wilderness. You also confused the Egyptians with this fire so they drowned! (Exodus 14:24).

It was when You Lord saw Moses turning to look at the bush that You called to him. And the place was holy. because You are holy. Moses stood bare footed before You. How many times do I miss turning to You and finding holy ground, because I am not looking or listening? Perhaps not expecting?

Help us to take each minute not as something to use quickly but as opportunity to stop and notice that You are in our day. You are wanting us to stop and listen. We may not always be able to slip off our shoes, but we can come humbly with two ears and listening lips.

In Jesus name I pray, Amen.

Worship Sunday 25th January 2026
This hymn written by John Pantry immediately came to mind from the title – slip off your shoes.

There comes a time in each believer′s life
When problems crowd around
And in the darkness, hands outstretched
We reach to touch You once again
And oh, the joy that’s found

Slip off your shoes and leave your doubts outside
You won′t be using the walk of the world in His presence
You’ll only need your repentant heart

Now it may seem funny
But if you use the word too much
The meaning flies away
Sorry doesn’t mean a lot
Unless you understand the cost
And how the price was paid

Chorus

So come and sit by your Father’s side
Tell Him what′s on your heart
Give your worries to Him
Every problem, every sin
And make a brand new, come on
Make a brand new start

Chorus
